Infertility treatment can be cured with the help of technology, Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). It may involve fertility medication, in vitro fertilzation (IVF) and surrogacy. ART also involves intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and cryopreservation.
Medication is used simply to stimulate the development of follicles in the ovary. Many of the infertility may be just due to the unhealthy practice and lifestyle, or due to the lack of specific substances. Most of them may be due to the hormone and few may be due to other factors.
IVF - In Vitro Fertilization
IVF is abbreviation for In vitro fertilzation. It is a process of artificial fertilzation where egg and sperm comes into contact with each other in a monitorized environment outsited a human body specially inside a glass(vitro). After the fertilzation process, the zygote (fertilized egg) undergo embryo culture and is then transferred to the women's uterus. The implanting uterus may be the same or different according to the need, law or nature of the procedure. After the successful birth of the first child, Louise Joy Brown, in 1978 via IVF, many couples have open upto IVF and the number is increasing day by day. Also the technique and technology has gone a vast evolution until now, but the principle are same. With the birth of first test tube baby in Nepal, Om Mani Tamang, people are excited and happy. Some of the IVF techniues used today are:
Natural IVF emphasizes on using no drugs for egg simulation. No drugs means less chances of success rate but is a very healthy practice. If focus on single egg rather than multiple egg. This is the by far the best IVF treatment with no or less side effects. It also reduces the risk of multiple pregnancy and reduce the overall cost of IVF. This is perfect for those anyone who want to go IVF, with no fertility drug and who are allergic to fertility drugs. But, the success rate of Natural IVF is comparatively lower than other IVF.
Mini-IVF unlike Natural IVF uses minimal drugs for egg simulation in order to collect multiple quality eggs. Unlike conventional IVF, mini-IVF focus on few egg with weaker medication or with lower doses of fertility medication. With less use of fertility drugs, the cost per cycle is lower and so is the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Success rate of Mini-IVF is comparatively lower than conventional IVF but higher than the Natural IVF.
IUI- Intrauterine Insemination
IUI is an fertility treatment where sperm are directly placed inside the uterus to promote ertilization. The process is during the ovulation period of women. IUI is mostly used for couples with unexplained infertility or ejaculation dysfunction in male or women with cervical mucus problem. IUI is found to be 10-20% more effective than the conventional and other IVF. IUI objective is to increase the number of sperm landing reaching the fallopian tube or uterus.
Surrogacy is an special arrangement in the case of fertility healthy, where a women agrees to become pregnant, carry the pregnancy, give birth to the child on the behalf of another person for money or just to help. When high pregnancy risk is there for mother's health, or a single man or homosexual male person wishes to have a child, this arrangement is made. It may or may not involve monetary compensation. The legality of surrogacy varies widely all around the world. And, surrogacy has been declared illegal in Nepal by the Supreme Court's final verdict on December 12, 2016.
Cryo-preservation is a process of fertility treatment where cell, tissue, fused egg, embryo or any other biological constructable part is preserved for future use by cooling to a very low temperature using solid carbon dioxide or using liquid nitrogen. The cold temperature stop the biological activities hence preserving the specimen. Special care should be taken to prevent damage to cells during cryopreservation during the freezing stage.
Before treatment, proper diagnosis for infertility is necessary. The type of diagnosis may vary according to the reason of infertility. Before the diagnosis specific question are asked to the patients regarding the prior miscarriage, prior pregnanciees, menstrual cycle and other reproductive problem. The answer helps the doctor to carry out the correct diagnosis for the infertility treatment. Correct and Effective diagnosis is the key element of treatment in Nepal IVF. Different types of Diagnosis involves semen analysis (for man), ovarian reserve testing (for women), biospy, hormones and genetic testings.
Disadvantages of IVF Treatment
Everything has boon and curse. So does the IVF treatment. Even though every precuation has been considered and taken, there are chances that fertility is not achieved. Chances are there that with every cycle, you may not achieve pregnancy, which means loss of health and wealth.
The use of fertility drugs during the process can cause mood swings , nausea, diarohhea and abdominal pain. With the conventional IVF, chances of multiple pregnancy such as twins, triplets and more is high. So, always seek services from the esteemed infertility center, where all the chances of misfortune and misconception is reduced.
